From the Heart of Hollywood The WGA Strike

As an integral part of the cinematic universe, I am a representative of two key entities that operate behind the scenes: the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the Motion Picture Editor's Guild (MPEG). Together with other organizations such as the Director's Guild of America (DGA), the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG), and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), we form a formidable force that safeguards the rights and careers of dedicated professionals who strive to create captivating movies and TV shows that entertain audiences all over the globe.

As part of these associations, representing my peers is not just a responsibility - it's an honor. Each negotiation and delegation discussion is a testament to our shared commitment and passion for this industry we adore.

The WGA Strike

The recent strike by the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) has sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood. The WGA safeguards the rights of writers across film, television, radio, and online media. Their current stand has brought the industry to a halt, echoing their demand for better working conditions and equitable compensation for their creative contributions.

The impact of this protest extends beyond just writers and has far-reaching implications. As a delegate representing Assistant Editors in the Motion Picture Editor's Guild, I have seen the effects of halted productions and post-production firsthand. With film production at a standstill, Hollywood is facing uncertainty, highlighting our industry's interconnectedness.

My feelings about the WGA strike are rooted in empathy, understanding, and solidarity. The writers' courage in fighting for fairness resonates with me, as we all share this struggle. I believe their victory will be ours, and we stand with them in this fight.

I wholeheartedly support the strike as I believe in the power of unity and the strength of our collective voice. I acknowledge that while the writers are currently striking, any one of us could be in their position tomorrow. We have almost struck as a unified front in previous negotiations, and the results of this strike could establish precedents that benefit all creative guilds and unions. It is crucial that the entertainment industry values and respects every creative individual within it.

Although I have invested a substantial amount of time in the film industry, my professional endeavors extend beyond this field. I have also delved into the fragrance industry, which shares similarities with film. Both industries embody creativity, human expression, and artistic vision. Their link is rooted in the ethos of showcasing craft and imagination, regardless of the medium.

My vision is simple: to advocate for a more inclusive, equitable, and respectful creative industry. This pursuit fosters an appreciation for craftsmanship and a common understanding that all creative endeavors receive just recognition.

The WGA strike serves as a clear reminder of the ongoing fight for fair treatment and living wages in our industry. As I reflect on the current state of affairs, find myself hopeful that we're finally here.

Now, more than ever, we need to stand together. I urge my fellow creatives in all crafts and all guilds to unite. Let's support each other, not only for the writers but for the prosperity of our collective future in this industry, which we hold dear.

As I look forward, I am hopeful. I believe in our power to transform this industry, our resilience, and our shared love for the craft. It's been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs, but one thing remains clear: we're stronger together, and we'll write the next chapter of our industry. #UnionStrong
